A traditional Polish ceremony used to be a three or even four evening event. Often, it was held outside in flowers, woodland and buildings. They were a celebration of life and the wealth of essence. Today, however, many couples choose to forgo the cathedral and simply include a meeting in their residence or backyard with close family and friends. As the pair leave the church, guests wash them with currencies and grains, to offer them luck and prosperity. They subsequently change into their celebration clothes.
